impacts of food waste

Each year, nearly 40% of all food in America¹ is wasted. That equates to 108 billion pounds of food that gets thrown away year after year. Sadly, the impact doesn’t stop there.

Rotting food in landfills accounts for 8% of all global greenhouse gases affecting Earth¹.

Wasted food = wasted resources.

When good food is wasted, Earth’s resources used to produce it such as water, land, livestock, and energy go to waste as well.

1-in-6 Americans face food and nutrition insecurity. That’s approximately 50 million Americans as of 2020².
